Long distance Buses

International buses are available between Managua and :

- Panamá City, Panamá
- San Jose, Costa Rica
- San Salvador, El Salvador
- Tegucigalpa, Honduras
- San Pedro Sula, Honduras
- Guatemala City, Guatemala
- Tapachula, México

The buses are modern with air conditioning. They usually depart early in the morning. If you plan on taking this form of transportation, try to book a few days in advance. Long distances buses can fill up days ahead of departure dates. Three companies are operating to/from Managua:

- Transnica : www.transnica.com

- Tica Bus : www.ticabus.com

- King Quality : www.king-qualityca.com

Tickets are available in agencies. You can't buy tickets online. You will have to go to one of the companies'  agencies with your passport. Schedule, agencies and itineraries are available on the companies' websites.

An alternative way to travel is to take a bus until the border, then cross the border, and board another bus. This is a common strategy for travelers, especially on the Costa Rican/Nicaraguan border. This option takes longer, but is much cheaper and doesn't need to be planned.
